Main duties of the job

We are a busy theatre department which provides a variety of surgical specialities such as general, upper GI, gynaecology, urology, OMFS, paediatric, orthopaedic trauma, maternity and breast surgery. We provide 24 hr emergency surgery alongside a dedicated 24 hr maternity theatre provision. We have 11 theatres in total and are located over four areas within the hospital each with their own recovery area. We are closely linked with the surgical admissions unit and we provide a combination of day case and in-patient care.

Successful candidates must demonstrate an ability to lead and manage a team and the department on a day to day basis with support from the theatre Matron and Lead nurse. You will be expected to work within the multidisciplinary team and be able to represent the department when required. You will be a resilient, positive role model and be able to provide support to the clinical teams to enable them to deliver high quality patient care. You will be patient focused with the ability to coach and nurture junior staff. Staff engagement is essential to this role and you will be active in staff health and well being.

You will be fully supported by the matron and the band 7 team. You will be given opportunities to continually develop in the role and teaching and learning is actively encouraged in the department.
