Job summary

We're looking for compassionate and caring Theatre Support Workers with a passion to be a key part of the patient care journey here at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Our Nursing Assistants take great pride in the essential work we do in the Emergency and Trauma Theatres. That's because we're not just helping patients, we're going the extra mile for them - day in, day out. care.

You'll communicate in a sensitive and compassionate manner with patients, and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, working flexibly across a range of day and night shifts over 7 days a week.

Previous Theatre experience is desirable but not essential.The advert may close early if there is high demand.

Main duties of the job

Theatres and Elective In Reach (TIER) is looking for Theatre Support Workers to work within our busy four theatres run by the Emergency and Trauma Team.Your role will be that of a Nursing Assistant to support the qualified theatre practitioners i.e. Theatre Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners. Your main responsibility will be inside Theatres supporting qualified practitioners to prepare the theatre and sterile equipment for surgery. This will include manual handling of surgical equipment and instruments, and assisting patient positioning. You will support the Scrub Practitioner and Surgical Team throughout the case, including setting up laparoscopic equipment, handling implants, and completing associated documentation - both digital and on paper.

Additional duties include collecting, escorting and reassuring patients to and from ward areas into the anaesthetic room, coupled with staffing the forward wait area where patients wait for their operative procedure.

The role also includes many other duties for example waste management, stock rotation, cleaning and use of medical devices.

If you are new to working in healthcare, you'll be supported to develop your knowledge and skills through our Support Worker Development Programme for Nursing Assistants which includes completion of the Care Certificate. Upon completion of the Programme, will give you the opportunity to progress to a Band 3 Nursing Assistant.
