As a part of the Manchester Foundation group of hospitals, The Manchester Royal Eye Hospital has its own dedicated theatres, wards, day case unit, outpatient department and Eye Emergency Centre, as well as the Cataract Unit based at Withington Community Hospital and satellite units at Altrincham and Trafford.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join as a receptionist/administration assistant for the Inpatient Services at MREH.

You will need to be highly organised and have excellent communication and customer service skills. You will provide a complete range of reception and administrative services including data input. You will liaise with all levels of clinical and administrative staff and welcome all patients and visitors to the ward/day case and pre assessment areas.

The role is varied and challenging. You must enjoy working with the general public and be a team player. A conscientious and pro-active approach is key to this role as well as a friendly personality and a mature and confident outlook.

Experience in a similar position is an advantage but is not essential.

You will be required to work 30 hours, between the hours of 07:30-19:00 across 6 days on a rotational basis.

Main duties of the job

  • Greet patients and visitors to inpatient areas, directing them as appropriate and informing the relevant clinical staff of their arrival

  • Answer all telephone calls politely ensuring enquiries are dealt with appropriately and that any relevant information is passed on to the appropriate person

  • Deal with messages on the answering machine regularly and appropriately

  • Ensure all relevant details are accurately entered on to the electronic patient administration system

  • Ensure appointments are offered to patients within National statutory waiting times, escalating to the Inpatient Team Leader when this is not possible

  • Produce electronic daily clinic lists and request medical notes where necessary
