An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Band 7 Occupational Therapist with experience of amputees to join the Vascular Therapy Team based at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The Vascular Therapy Team is a multi professional team consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Assistance and provides therapy to the acute Vascular ward and runs a community Early Supported Discharge (ESD) and Pre Amputation assessment (PAT) service. As this role has a community element you will need to have a car that you can use for work.
This role requires you to work closely with and support your Physiotherapy colleagues to provide a provide a high-quality clinical service within Vascular surgery. The role would require you to oversee the OTs on the acute vascular ward and lead on the management of the ESD and PAT service. The post holder will have relevant clinical experience working with patients in an acute vascular setting and/or the community and a special interest in working with patients who will be having major amputations.
Main duties of the job
You will oversee the occupational therapy management of acute and community vascular patients using outcome measures and patient centered goals.
You will be able to effectively carry out specialist assessments of vascular patients including patients following major amputation to identifying their problems & needs ensuring that medical, psychological, social, environmental & cultural factors are taken in to account.
You will be able to recognise and manage complex needs and demonstrate practical skills of assessment, goal setting, progressing patients to achieve their individual goals and facilitating the most appropriate discharge pathways.
Manage junior staff in the team completing supervision sessions, appraisals and specialist training. To provide education of undergraduate Occupational Therapy students and the Occupational Therapy apprentices will be an essential part of the role.
Peer support is strongly encouraged as well as team and individual development including regular multi-disciplinary IST, senior development and opportunities of postgraduate development.
Have excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
