Job summary

The Paediatric Neurology Department is a centre of excellence and a tertiary referral centre for the North West of England. Outreach clinics are held in the local district hospitals throughout the region. Inpatients are admitted to Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. The department has close links with child psychiatry, psychology, neurosurgery, metabolic medicine, clinical genetics and paediatric intensive care.

Specialist clinics are held in epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, neurofibromatosis, ketogenic diet and acquired brain injury

This post will provide excellent opportunities for gaining experience in the management of children and young people with complex epilepsy, neurological disorders and neurodisabilities under close supervision of the team of Paediatric Neurologists.

This post would be ideally suited to an individual who is post CCT in Paediatrics (or equivalent Specialist training) and who is wishing to develop skills in assessment and management of a wide range of neurological conditions. This post will enhance practical skills in paediatric neurology and allow the candidate to gain excellent experience in long-term management of patients with neurological disorders.

The fellow will be expected to work within the team coordinating patient care and facilitating discharge. Daily ward rounds are held for all neurology patients. The candidate will gain excellent exposure to a wide range of clinics under close consultant supervision

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Fellow will work within a team of junior doctors as listed above to participate in leading or supporting the junior doctor team with inpatient care which is well supervised by the consultant team, and contributing to the consultant-led outpatient clinics. Regular working days (when not on-call) are from 8 a.m. till 4.30 p.m.

The Clinical Fellow will be closely supervised in the provision of outpatient care with general as well as subspecialty paediatric neurology clinics. Over the course of the 12-month appointment, it will be expected that the Clinical Fellow will increasingly assume the responsibility in managing patients under the paediatric neurology consultants.
