Job summary
Applications are invited for the post(s) of Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon based at Manchester Royal Infirmary, and supporting the spoke Trusts in our Network across Greater Manchester. These vacancies are for replacement posts due to retirement; these full-time positions attracting 10 PAs, available October 2021, complement the current Vascular Service of 18 fulltime Consultants, 12 based at MRI and 6 at the The Royal Oldham Hospital. The appointees will be integral members of the Greater Manchester Vascular Surgical Service and will participate in a 1 in 6 Vascular Surgery on-call and the and Surgeon of the Week rotas. Mentorship within the unit will be provided based on discussion with the successful applicants around their needs.
Main duties of the job
The proposed job plan comprises 10PAs, including on-call, core and development SPAs, patient administration and the unit meeting, with hub and spoke clinics and dedicated hybrid theatre sessions. The post includes some flexible sessions to allow the utilisation of additional elective lists.
All new Consultants appointed to the Trust are enrolled in the New Consultant Development Programme which attracts 0.5 PA of SPA time. This is delivered in work hours on a rolling programme through the first year of appointment and is designed to equip a new consultant with the tools for the role.
The Vascular unit has undergone a MFT merger process to form a larger single arterial hub on the MRI site for the City of Manchester. It is envisaged that this will be completed by 2022/3 with complete co-location of all vascular service in GM to the MRI site, making MRI the biggest Vascular unit in the country. It is expected that any applicant will be ambitious and engage in the development of services and the opportunities that this will enable.
