Job summary
We are currently looking to recruit a Locum Consultant Paediatric Allergist to help deliver peanut desensitisation and to support research and NHS clinics at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. This is a tertiary service providing food, drug, insect allergy management, immunotherapy, and use of biologics. There is a large portfolio of research in the department with good links to the University of Manchester.The incumbent will work collaboratively with the existing team. The successful applicant will need to have demonstrated experience and competence in the management of children with allergies, teaching, research skills, and in NHS administration. Consideration will be given to general paediatricians with an interest in paediatric allergy and medical education, as well as those with formal sub-specialty training in the area.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work collaboratively with the team to provide routine day to day paediatric allergy service.
Approximately 1,800 children are seen each year in ten allergy clinics provided each week by the paediatric allergy service at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. These patients are referred from across the North West region. A day care unit supports food and drug provocation tests, along with sublingual or subcutaneous immunotherapy. The service supports evaluation and management of entire range of allergy presentations and clinical research. The patient mix includes acute and chronic presentations including but not limited to multiple & complex food, drug, venom, peri-anaesthetic allergies, idiopathic anaphylaxis, urticaria/angioedema, severe allergic asthma, chronic rhino sinusitis, eosinophilic enteropathy, mast cell disorders, latex and vaccine allergies with medically unexplained illnesses
