Job summary

Applications are welcomed from specialist registrars training in adult cardiology with the necessary experience to take up a period of training in advanced transcatheter structural heart interventions. This is a replacement post. This post would suit either an experienced interventional trainee (pre or post CCST) who wishes to broaden their interventional scope to include structural experience, or to a more junior trainee who wishes to gain specialist experience in valvular heart disease and imaging in addition to lab experience. The applicant should be at cardiology middle grade level able to participate on a middle grade cardiology on call rota.

The post involves dedicated daytime activities within the TAVI team working closely with the MRI based TAVI operators and TAVI nurses, as well as participation in the middle grade on call rota at MRI for which a banding of 1B is applied to the basic salary. This on call commitment is supported by on call SHO level / junior trainee support. The successful candidate will learn all aspects of TAVI assessment, TAVI procedures, CT analysis and echocardiographic assessment of aortic valve disease.

Candidates that are non-GMC registered at the point of application will be considered for this position, under the Trusts International Fellowship Scheme (please note, there is a £500 admin charge for this scheme). Main duties of the job

The applicant should be at cardiology middle grade level able to participate on a middle grade cardiology on call rota. Advanced experience either in cardiac imaging (echocardiographic and cross sectional imaging) or in advanced PCI is highly desirable. An active interest in research is highly desirable.

An indicative job plan will be as follows:

Monday 8am to 6pmcardiac catheter lab TAVI procedures (Wythenshawe site)

Tuesday 8am to 6pm cardiac catheter lab PCI / aortic balloon valvuloplasty / TAVI (MRI 1/4, Wythenshawe 3/4)

Wednesday 8am to 10 am TAVI MDT; 10am-2pm imaging*; 2-4pm clinic (MRI site)

Thursday 9am to 3pm admin / imaging* /research (MRI site)

Friday 9am to 1pm clinic; 1pm to 3pm MDT prep (MRI site)

In addition to the above plan, there is a regular departmental teaching programme consisting of weekly journal club, weekly echo meeting, weekly PCI case presentation meetings.

Imaging * denotes either echocardiographic or cardiac CT imaging experience that could be tailored to the applicant's needs.

Regular review of ward patients under the care of the MRI TAVI team on both sites is essential and needs to be fitted around other activities.
