Job summary

We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a locum clinical embryologist in the renowned Department of Reproductive Medicine, Old St Mary's Hospital, Manchester. Our programme treats NHS and fee paying patients and currently performs 800 cycles of IVF/ICSI and 400 cycles of frozen embryo replacements annually.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work in a team of twelve clinical embryologists and will be joining a group based at Old St Mary's and also the University of Manchester, with a strong interest in research and service development. Current areas of active research include embryo culture and selection, blastocyst formation and surgical sperm retrieval service.The candidate ideally will have gained band 7 essential requirements of State Registration and be an ICSI practitioner. Candidates with evidence of working towards state registration and becoming an ICSI practitioner will be banded as 6 and up graded to band 7 on completion of both essential requirements. Essential

  • Registration as a Clinical Scientist with Healthcare Professions Council
  • Full membership of the UK Association of Reproductive Clinical Scientists (ARCS), or the equivalent.
  • BSc in Biological Sciences or related
  • A relevant MSc or PhD.
  • Possession of the grade Association of Clinical Embryology training scheme certificate or NHS Scientist Training Programme (STP) in cellular science or Part 1 examination for membership of Royal College of Pathologists, or its equivalent
  • Registration with the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority as an ICSI practitioner
  • Demonstration of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Diplomate of the Royal College of Pathology or working towards it

  • A thorough knowledge of gametogenesis and early human embryology
  • A good knowledge of infertility and the range of therapeutic treatment options
  • Knowledge and expert experience in all aspects of Clinical Embryology
