Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Physiologist with a high level of knowledge and experience in the field of Intraoperative Monitoring (IOM), to lead and further develop the existing paediatric Neurophysiology IOM service currently sited within the unit of the Royal Manchester Childrens hospital and part of the wider Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust.
You will be a key member of the senior Neurophysiology Directorate team, responsible for the provision of IOM services in the paediatric unit.
A long established IOM service for the monitoring of children undergoing corrective spinal surgery already exists, and with the demand for paediatric neurosurgical monitoring continuing to increase, your role will be key in future developments within this specialist area.
Main duties of the job
You will be accountable for the management and development of the existing Intraoperative Monitoring (IOM) Service at Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. Primarily a paediatric service undertaken in the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, responsibilities will include service planning, policy development and financial planning.
You will be accountable for the management and development of the Clinical Physiologists (Neurophysiology) within this specialist area of IOM, undertaking specialist education and training.
Although lead for IOM, you will join a larger team undertaking Neurophysiology testing across a number of other MFT hospital sites on both adults and children. This will include all modalities of EEG, Nerve conduction studies for patients with suspected Carpal tunnel or ulnar neuropathies, multi-modality evoked potentials and some small fiber testing.

This is a large, unique, multi-sited Neurophysiology service providing neurophysiology on both adult and pediatric patients across the city of Manchester on 4 of the Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT) Hospital sites. These include the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) and Royal Manchester Children's Hospitals (RMCH), both of which are located on the Oxford Rd campus (ORC) within the city centre. Other sites are Wythenshawe Hospital in the south of Manchester and the North Manchester Hospital site based in the north of the city.
The Neurophysiology Directorate has 26 WTE staff consisting of Physiologists/ Support/Admin staff and operates as one large unit. The majority of physiologist staff are multi- sited and will move around on a rota basis to cover routine and non-routine services.
The Directorate is supported by a number of Consultant Neurophysiologists and has close links with the Neurosciences Centre at Salford Royal.
The Neurophysiology unit at RMCH is an integral part of the North Children's Epilepsy Surgery service (NorCESS) and provides specialist videotelemetry EEG and stereo EEG for children referred via this service.
