Job summary
This post within Paediatric ENT will provide clinical support at core trainee level with a 40% to specifically look at rota design and covid recovery (funded by HEE(NW)). Clinically they will work under the supervision of the consultant body, 2 speciality trainees and post CCT fellow. We have a full time rotational junior doctor who is part of the adult ENT rotation in Manchester Royal Infirmary and a second junior doctor based at RMCH for 6 months. When exploring trainee experience from survey data, during quality monitoring visits and during 'covid recovery' discussions, rotas and job plans are the most referenced issue and challenge. The underlying specifics are myriad and while many are site specific, there are also common generic themes. HEENW view delivering best practice, a set of standards and a common methodology to achieving these is a critical pillar in ensuring high quality training for all. We recognise that this is a significant piece of work for any organisation and is inevitably demanding on both resource and time. However, a single coordinated workstream across each organisation which dovetails with a broader system-wide piece has more potential for delivering tangible and implementable outputs. From our experience and learning to date, best practice appears to be where trainees and trainers are engaged in a collaborative process with service and HR teams putting training front and centre when determining how to deliver both planed and unplanned care. Main duties of the job
Organisationally, this is an opportunity to actively improve this critical element of training and service delivery through focused resourcing, supervised tests of change and contribute to the development of best practice standards. Ward Work includes Supporting the specialty trainees and advanced clinical practitioners to conduct daily ward rounds including the assessment, investigation and management of Tertiary and Secondary level Paediatric ENT surgical cases. Theatre Work includes: The post holder will have opportunity to be further trained in a wide range of Paediatric ENT surgical procedures, including airway endoscopy. This can be tailored to the candidate's specific requirements with a focus on meeting ST3 application criteria. A condition of this funding is the mandatory requirement to provide a quarterly written report to HEENW using the provided template from HEENW. Medical Staff may be asked to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with colleagues both senior and junior.Managerially accountable to the supervising consultant and professionally accountable to the Trust Medical Director (Professional Matters) Miss Toli Onon.
