The pharmacy division of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust are looking for outstanding applicants with a high degree of enthusiasm, flexibility and commitment to train and study to become a registered Pharmacy Technician.

The post offers a two-year fixed term training contract, with rotations across all four sites Manchester Royal Infirmary (Oxford Road) Wythenshawe Hospital, Trafford General Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital.

Each of the departments provide an extensive range of services where Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians play an important role working under supervision supported by a multi-disciplinary team including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians. Their responsibilities are varied and include medicines management duties at ward level undertaking medicines reconciliation, assessing patients own medicines for suitability and ordering medication for individual patients. The role is integral in providing a quality dispensing service for all patients within the Trust.

4 GCSEs/equivalent grades A-C/4-9:

  • English language
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Another science subject preferably Biology (dual or combined science award accepted)

Main duties of the job

The successful post-holder will follow a comprehensive two-year training programme under a Technical Service rotation covering all aspects of hospital pharmacy across all sites of MFT; to include rotations within stores, procurement, outpatient pharmacy receiving, validating prescriptions, issuing medicines, dispensing for mental health prescriptions, medicines management as well as the opportunity to undertake additional training in governance and safety.

Students will attend college on a day release to achieve the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Technicians. This is a demanding role and will require study both in work and in your own time. The expectation is to dedicate at least 10 hours each week to facilitate the completion of your studies. You will receive full support from an Educational Supervisor and qualified pharmacy assessors to complete the qualification.
