Pathology Lead
Salary: Dedicated 2 PA commitment
In conjunction with the NWGLH Scientific Director, Medical Director, Scientific Operations Director and Cancer Genomics Medical Lead plus senior leadership team of the St Mary's Hospital Division of Genomic Medicine to advise and oversee the strategic development and delivery of the genomics service with respect to Cellular Pathology; as part of a comprehensive, efficient and high quality integrated Genomics Laboratory service for the population of the North West of England.
Main duties of the job
You will be a Medical Consultant in Cellular Pathology with proven leadership experience of managing teams. You will also be able to demonstrate proven expertise in assessing and processing tissue for genomic testing and be a recognised national/international expert and contributor in pathology and genomic medicine.
You will be NW GLH Pathology Lead at the Genomics Tumour Advisory Board (GTAB) and be the point of contact for the pathology community with the NW Genomics Medicine Service Alliance (NW GMSA) and a communication link between the GLH, the GMSA and the 3 NW Cancer Alliances (Lancashire and Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside). You will support the NW GLH Scientific Director to develop our strategic vision for the NW GLH via input regarding policy development and operational strategic objectives including workforce redesign.

- Proven leadership of managing teams and leadership experience at departmental level and interest to develop skills to a regional and national level
- Experience in audit, service redesign and quality improvement initiatives
- Proven experience in clinical laboratory accreditation for cellular pathology and quality assurance schemes for histopathology and molecular pathology including neoplastic cell content assessment
- Proven expertise in assessing and processing cancer tissue for genomic testing, including fresh frozen tissue for WGS
- Experience in working with cancer MDTs and cancer alliances; familiar with cancer treatment targets and commissioning of diagnostic services; familiar with barriers to timely diagnostics and national initiatives for the best timed pathway in various cancer types
Desirable
- A recognised expert in own field as evidenced by publication record or other examples of active participation in research and education and through contribution to regional or national initiatives in cellular / molecular pathology and/or genomics.
- An active interest to publish on molecular pathology research and innovation
