Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to enhance and develop their knowledge, skills and experience in paediatric dysphagia as a band 6 . Being part of the acute paediatric Speech and Language Therapy team in Royal Manchester Children's hospital , you will manage a caseload of children with feeding and acquired communication difficulties within the acute tertiary setting. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing holistic care to patients across all wards and specialist outpatient clinics. You will be supported in your role by our experienced paediatric team of 5 SLTs ( band 8a, 7 and 6 ) and will be allocated a dedicated clinical supervisor

You will already have experience of working in the NHS preferably within the acute hospital environment. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate clinical skills in paediatric dysphagia, will have awareness of the principles of videofluoroscopy and will be experienced in working with infants and children with special needs including pre-school and school aged children.

You must have a recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy, ideally supported by Post Basic Dysphagia Qualification or equivalent and current HCPC registration

Main duties of the job

You will:

Provide specialist assessment and management of patients with wide ranging dysphagia and/or acquired communication needs.

Take responsibility for devising, monitoring and evaluating specialist advice/programmes of care for parents/carers and other professionals.

Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to provide education, advice and support to patients, parents/carers and the wider staff team.

Have excellent organisational and time management skills, being able to prioritise a busy workload and cope well under pressure.

Take responsibility for keeping up to date with recent developments and research relevant to clinical area and contribute to small scale studies as appropriate.
