Job summary
We are looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Senior Nurse who is passionate about Surgical Nursing and delivering the best patient care, who can provide leadership and strategic direction for all clinical departments across the Division of Trauma, Orthopaedics, Burns & Plastics across the hospitals of MFT. You'll be expected to utilise expert operational and clinical knowledge to ensure effective, robust working relationships with senior management and clinical colleagues both within MFT and external to the Trust
The Head of Nursing is the professional lead for nursing across the Division of Trauma , Orthopaedics, Burns & Plastics providing visible leadership across a clinical service setting, monitoring and maintaining professional high standards. S/he is an innovative and dynamic practitioner committed to improving the patient/client experience, improving standards of care and services, commanding the confidence of colleagues within the service and other specialty teams across the Trust.
The Head of Nursing will work as part of a divisional triumvirate with the Divisional Director of and the Clinical Head of Division. The post is accountable to the Divisional Director and professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing.
Main duties of the job
S/he will set clear expectations and lead the delivery of nursing and midwifery objectives and demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering a world-class service for patients and be accountable for the development of education and practice to support the implementation of:
- Professional nursing and midwifery agenda
- Delivery of high standards of care consistently demonstrating improvement
- Implementation of practice and service developments in line with the Trust and Nursing and midwifery values and behaviours aligned to the Nursing & Midwifery strategy
- Delivery of family centred care/leading edge services/innovation
- The safeguarding agenda for children and vulnerable adults
- Staff experience for nursing and midwifery teams
Working collaboratively with the Clinical Head of the Division and lead across the Division for quality & patient experience including measurement and analysis of nursing and midwifery metrics, improvement methodology, and the accreditation processes. S/he will act as a catalyst for change for the delivery of high quality clinical care. S/he will provide professional line management for nurses and non-medical professionals within the Division. She/he will ensure that the clinical services are delivered within allocated budgets, ensuring safe and effective service delivery using evidenced based tools and contribute to the delivery of the Divisional and Hospital financial plans.
