Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a developing inspirational leader to become the Ward Manager of Ward D6 at North Manchester General hospital. Ward D6 is a 14 bedded general surgical ward which delivers care to general surgical patients pre and post operatively for specialities including max fax, urology, breast, general and gynaecology.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to develop skills with elective and emergency surgical patients, working alongside the multidisciplinary team and advanced clinical practitioners. This is an ideal opportunity for leadership development to successfully lead a nursing team to deliver excellent care and professional standards as part of a supportive directorate within the surgery division.

The post holder will lead all aspects of professional nursing practice at ward level including line management of the ward team, staff budget resources and management of the ward environment with a focus on quality and safety. You will have the opportunity to develop and advance your own skills with the support from the Matron and the Lead Nurse.To apply for this post you must have substantial experience at band 6 level and be a positive role model. Surgical experience is essential and applicants with demonstrable leadership skills and experience within an acute setting are encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder has a key leadership and management role at a senior level,will provide specialist skills and knowledge to support the organisation anddelivery of care for patients within the directorate. This will incorporate the provision of care to patients and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the area, ensuring that Trust values and beliefs are upheld.

The Senior Ward Sister / Charge nurse has a fundamental role in the delivery of high standards of nursing care, ensuring an environment that is conducive to well being and contributing to effective budgetary management.A minimum of 50% of his/her time will be supernumerary to clinical establishment
