Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multiagency team, working alongside clinical psychologists, educational psychologists, paediatricians and child and adolescent psychiatrists in an innovative service to improve the diagnostic and assessment experience for children with autism and their families. The post holder will work in the Trafford Autism and Social Communication Pathway based in Sale Waterside. They will be one of the clinicians in autism assessment in their area and will provide post diagnostic workshops to children and families in conjunction with other members of the TASC Pathway. The post-holder duties will also include contributing to multi-agency liaison, consultation and training of other professionals as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Delivery of service in a multi-agency environment and in the context of the new TASC Assessment Pathway in a designated locality).

To take the lead in providing specialist autism assessments of children and adolescents referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources including developmental history, school observations, speech and language assessments, self-report measures, direct and indirect observation and interviews with young people, family members and/or carers. Assessment may be face to face or virtual.

To provide standardised autism assessments including the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) - training can be provided

To provide training, advice and consultation to staff from health and other agencies in areas relevant to direct clinical work and service provision.

To provide training on issues related to communication and speech and language therapy to the wider TASC team as required

To contribute a specialist perspective to case planning and multi-agency case conferences and reviews and call multi-professional meetings when appropriate.

To communicate highly complex condition-related or contentious or sensitive information where there may be significant barriers to acceptance and to manage ensuing difficult interpersonal situations in the interests of the patient's welfare.

To deliver post diagnostic intervention in line with pathway protocol having received the training to do so.
