Job summary

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) is responsible for the delivery of high-quality medicaland dental education for over 1,000 postgraduate medical and dental trainees, who train and work across all sites in a wide range of specialties.

The Manchester Surgical Skills and Simulation Centre (MSSSC), MFT is housed in the Stopford Building at the University of Manchester on Oxford Road. The Centre has extensive modern facilities with a focus on delivering surgical and simulation training using human cadavers and animal tissues.

An exciting opportunity as arisen for a motivated and experienced Theatre Mortuary Supervisor who can demonstrate experience working in a surgical theatre or mortuary environment. The individual will also need a good knowledge of general and/or specialised surgical equipment.

We seek an individual with excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as Health Education England and the Royal College of Surgeons.

The role will require a strong team player who is organised, adaptable and has a flexible approach to the work environment. Essential to the role is also the ability to lift heavy loads with manual dexterity (training and appropriate equipment provided).

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the centre, ensuring legal compliance and best practice is achieved.

Working under the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) Anatomy licence, the postholder will be responsible for and have oversight of the correct preparation and provision of human cadavers, animal tissue, surgical apparatus, and equipment to support the delivery of training courses to our multi-professional healthcare customers.

The role will include the supervision of staff and acting up duties for the Head of MSSSC when required.

The role is offered initially on a 12-month fixed term contract, secondments will be considered.
