An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant in Rheumatology to join Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, based at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Main duties of the job
The department of General Medicine covers the diabetes, multi-speciality/complex care medicine wards and medical patients on specialist and surgical wards.
The team adopts a consultant of the week model to cover wards, with the consultant expected to lead or participate in board rounds, ward rounds, ward-related clinical admin, supervision & teaching. It is anticipated that the consultant will spend 2 weeks in every 5 weeks providing ward cover, in addition to weekend working (currently 1 in 8).
The successful applicant would be expected to engage in specialty work for 3 weeks in every 5 weeks. The appointee will be expected to take part in a specialty consultant of the week rota, which in the future may include provision of 7 day working.
The Kellgren Centre for Rheumatology provides a local secondary care rheumatology service to central Manchester (approx 200,000 people). In addition, it provides a regional and tertiary referral service for several key rheumatological conditions including connective tissue disease and vasculitis, Behcet's syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, and seronegative spondyloarthropathies. There is also a strong clinical interest in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound in inflammatory arthritis, and a regional yttrium synovectomy service.
In addition, there are specialist shared clinics including a high risk pregnancy clinic, young adult clinics and an advanced therapy-biologics clinic for connective tissue disease.
