Job summary

Health Innovation Manchester (HInM) is a leading force in the discovery, development and implementation of innovation in healthcare to address the major challenges facing the delivery of safe and effective healthcare services to everyone.

We are seeking an inspirational leader and innovator to join our board as a Non-Executive Director to help harness the power of our exceptional academic and clinical assets and booming life sciences sector to achieve our aim of making Greater Manchester one of the most innovative health and social care systems around the world.

You will draw on your track record of success as a strategic leader in complex and fast-moving environments with a strong ability able to use your independence of thought, entrepreneurial spirit, and commercial and political astuteness to contribute as a full member of our highly respected board. You will be driven by a commitment to equality and diversity and addressing the health inequalities that affect the people of Greater Manchester and beyond. We are particularly interested in applications from individuals with deep commercial expertise in the health and life science sector or in digital technologies, or with a background in public private sector partnerships.

Main duties of the job

As a Non-Executive Director on the HInM Board you will:

  • Shape HInM's strategic direction and ensure its objectives are achieved
  • Use your knowledge and experience to bring a fresh, independent perspective to the Board's thinking
  • Be held to account and hold the Executives to account to deliver agreed plans and priorities and ensure HInM's budgets are aligned to its key objectives in order to achieve return on investment
  • Ensure that HInMs financial, clinical and quality governance arrangements are robust
  • Uphold HInMs values, and behaviours and promote equality and diversity both within and without the organisation

Health Innovation Manchester is a partnership which brings together the NHS, Greater Manchester's 4 Universities and 10 Local Authorities, and industry innovators, with a shared vision to transform the health of GM's 2.8m citizens through the discovery and rapid deployment of industry-led innovations.

We're based at Citylabs, which is on the Manchester University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) Oxford Road site and the Oxford Road corridor, creating a world-class hub for health innovation and precision medicine, part of Europe's largest clinical academic campus. Our annual budget is circa £18m and we currently employ 129 staff on a variety of contracts'.
