Charge Nurse

The closing date is 26 April 2026

Job summary

We are seeking a confident and compassionate Band 6 Charge Nurse to join Trinity Ward, our 15-bedded female acute psychiatric ward, providing high-quality, trauma-informed care to women experiencing acute mental health difficulties. This is a pivotal leadership role within a supportive and experienced multidisciplinary team, where you will provide visible clinical leadership, coordinate shifts, and support staff to deliver safe, therapeutic, and recovery-focused care in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining ward standards, managing clinical risk, and supporting staff engagement with complex presentations, while fostering a culture of reflective practice, professionalism, and compassion. This post offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated nurse who is passionate about women's mental health and keen to develop their leadership skills within a collaborative and values-driven service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide day to day clinical leadership on an acute inpatient ward, acting as shift coordinator and supporting the delivery of safe, effective nursing care. You will provide professional oversight of nursing practice, support risk management processes, and contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

The role includes supporting and, where appropriate, leading the MDT during day to day ward activity, ensuring effective communication, shared decision making, and coordinated care delivery. You will supervise and support junior staff, deliver clinical supervision, and contribute to staff development through visible leadership on the ward.

You will engage in clinical audit and Quality Improvement activity and support the implementation of service improvements. When required, the post holder will act as Duty Senior Nurse, supporting the coordination and deployment of nursing staff across the unit to ensure safe staffing and continuity of care.
