Job summary
This is an opportunity for full-time Trust Doctor (CT1-3) in OPMH - Rose & Poppy Ward. The appointee will work together with other trainees rotating through.
The post holder will be required to demonstrate that they have experience in Psychiatry management and preferably will have MRCPysch or equivalent. The posts may be attractive to candidates who have completed Foundation and Core Medical competencies (or equivalent) and wish to gain further experience in Psychiatry before pursing ST4 training , or those who wish to work towards CESR in the specialty. Although this is a non-training post, the successful candidate will be assigned a consultant educational supervisor and will be encouraged to maintain an educational portfolio with appropriate assessments to their level of experience. There are regular educational, clinical governance and departmental meetings, as well as Wessex study days. There are also a wide range of opportunities to participate in clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
Main duties of the job
There will be opportunities to acquire core competencies such as:
*Construct formulations of patient's problems that include appropriate differential diagnosis
*Recommend relevant investigation and treatment
*Assess and document patient's potential for self-harm or harm to others and vulnerability to abuse/neglect, (including emergencies/ Mental Health Act)
*Conduct therapeutic interviews
*Concisely, accurately and legibly record assessment and management plan
*Carry out specialist assessment and treatment of chronic and severe mental disorders
*Effective communication with patients, relatives and colleagues
*Ability to work effectively with colleagues
*Appropriate leadership skills
*Manage time and problems effectively
*Conduct and complete audit in clinical practice
*Understanding of clinical governance
*Inform and educate patients effectively
*Teach, assess and appraise
*Understanding research methodology and appraise research literature
*Act in a professional manner at all times
