Job summary
Located at Tatchbury Mount, Southampton; Austen House is a specialist hospital for adolescents with complex mental health needs. Austen House is made up of two wards, a Low Secure Unit (LSU) and a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), jointly caring for up to 14 young people at anyone time.
As a staff nurse you will be a vital part of our multi-disciplined team helping us to deliver high standards of care to the young people we care for across both wards. Your day will be very varied and include supporting our young people through completion of nursing assessments, evaluation of care, contributing to ward reviews, training and development of junior staff and ensuring a high standard of nursing care is maintained through supervision. This post is also available to newly qualified staff and you will be offered a comprehensive preceptorship when you come to join us.Please note Austen House is a 24 7 service, working shifts consisting mostly of long days 7am-8.30pm, long day twilights 10am-11.30pm and nights 7.30pm-7.45am. It is essential that staff members are able to work a combination of the aforementioned shifts and can work across a 7 day week. Main duties of the job
To contribute where required to the provision of a 24 hour, seven day a week in-patient based service, across an acute care pathway.Under the supervision of the Ward Managers and Charge Nurses, you are required to work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines.You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. Develop, implement and evaluate care plans in conjunction with patients, carers and other professionals ensuring individual needs are met. To carry out all relevant forms of care and will be designated to take charge of a ward in the absence of a charge nurse.
