Rotational Senior Neuro Occupational Therapist

Job summary

The Community Neuro rehabilitation team provides intensive neuro rehabilitation to individuals following a Stroke or Neurological diagnosis, who have been newly discharged from hospital or are at risk of admission into hospital and have a GP within Southampton City or parts of West Hampshire. The multidisciplinary team comprises of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Nursing, Clinical Psychology, Rehab Assistant therapy and admin, which is delivered in a client's own home or alternative community setting (e.g. ward).

As a rotational band 6 Neuro OT you will provide rehab for patients in the following specialist areas: ESD, Snowdon Ward, Community Neuro Rehab Team and Vocational Rehabilitation Service. You will be working closely with the other services like transition rehab services, neuro gym, community SLT and Psychology. The service also has established relationships with local voluntary sector services including the Stroke Association, Different Strokes and Headway.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of a multi-professional neuro rehab teams, in close collaboration with other relevant services/agencies e.g. acute rehabilitation units, community rehab teams, inpatient wards, rapid response etc.

To manage caseload of clients within the community or ward setting and oversee caseload for rehabilitation assistants.

To undertake assessment and treatment of clients within a community/ward setting, who have complex / and or chronic presentation requiring specialist skills and determine profession specific and multidisciplinary rehabilitation interventions.

To plan and implement comprehensive programmes of intervention for clients who require intensive rehabilitation in the hospital, clinic or community setting.

Carry out profession specific and general multidisciplinary rehabilitation procedures, many of which will require specialist skills and knowledge

Supervise junior members of staff, rehabilitation assistants and students on clinical placement.

Participate in and maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new developments e.g. active involvement in professional special interest groups and taking responsibility to incorporate into practice.
