Senior Health Care Support Worker - Older Persons Mental Health

Job summary

Gosport War Memorial Hospital is an Older Persons Mental Health Hospital for both male and female clients aged 65 years and above. It has a purpose built in-patient unit which cares for patients with both functional and organic acute mental health problems.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Senior Health care Support Worker to join our multi disciplinary team and support the qualified Nurses in providing effective mental health care in a safe therapeutic environment. This role is an exciting addition to our team to ensure effective leadership for the HCSW's.

You will require previous experience as a HCSW, with good communication skills. If you are genuinely interested in caring for older people with mental health problems then we would like to hear from you.

You will receive regular Supervision and Annual Appraisal and will be offered training opportunities to meet your Personal Development Plan.

Previous experience of working within a care environment or the NHS is desirable but not essential as you will be supported in learning in the role.

Main duties of the job

*To act as a member of MDT providing high-qualify care and advice to inpatients.

*To record clinic observations

*To carry out procedures as trained to do

*To help assess, plan/implement and evaluate patient care under the supervision of the nurse in charge.

*Plan allocated workload for shifts that promotes patient choice, cost efficiency and patient safety.

*To be aware of changes in patient's conditions and act appropriately, reporting findings to the nurse in charge.

*To ensure that all equipment used for patient care is in safe working order. To follow procedures and guidelines. To ensure equipment is serviced or replaced.

*Encourage and promote independence according to patient's ability.

*To provided leadership role to band 2 HCSW

*Promote working using recovery principals

*Act as supervisor/mentor as delegated by ward manager
