Healthcare Support Worker - Eating Disorders

Job summary

We are looking for a confident and supportive Healthcare Support Worker with a passion for delivering outstanding care within the Eating Disorder Service, Day Support Programme (DSP).

The DSP works with up to six service users with a diagnosis of Anorexia Nervosa to help with weight recovery and supports an active approach in eating disorder recovery.

DSP is primarily based within April House in Southampton and currently runs from 08:30-16:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and until 19:30 on Wednesdays.

April House is made up of a community outpatient department that offers specialist assessment and psychological treatment for adult service users with a range of eating disorders. The Day Support Programme, which is an intensive community treatment programme and a physical health monitoring team, monitors service users who present with high physical health risks.

The role includes supporting service users within DSP through both one-to-one and group work with the focus on both meal support and psychoeducation. You will work alongside a supportive team including a Dietitian, Mental Health Nurse, Mental Health Practitioner, Occupational Therapist and other Healthcare Support Workers.

Interviews are due to take place on Wednesday 5 November 2025 for this role.

Main duties of the job

Some of your duties will include administrative tasks, food shopping, planning and preparing mealtimes, supervising and supporting patients during meals and/or snacks, co-facilitating therapeutic groups, providing one-to-one support as needed both within April House and in the community.

You will be caring and compassionate, honest, conscientious, and committed. You will contribute to maintaining safe clinical practice by ensuring that clinical records are accurate, correctly collated, and up to date.

You will be involved in audit and research as part of service delivery and participate in service improvement projects.
