Job summary
*To provide highly specialist Speech & Language Therapy Service to a caseload including those with complex needs within area of speciality requiring highly specialist clinical knowledge and expertise.
*To work as part of an multidisciplinary neurological community team and nutrition team, in close collaboration with other relevant services/agencies e.g. acute stroke unit, community rehab teams, virtual wards, rapid response etc
*To work as an autonomous practitioner providing highly specialist assessments, diagnosis and management of patients with swallowing and communication disorders and determine profession specific and multidisciplinary rehabilitation interventions.
*To support the Clinical Services Manager, deputising when required.
*To provide a lead role across the service and trust within specialist area, working with Team/locality and care pathway leads and other highly specialist colleagues, providing clinical leadership, driving forward service development, maintaining standards and ensuring the provision of up to date evidence based care.
*To provide leadership for developing and evaluating the service.
*To provide clinical advice and second opinions.
Main duties of the job
*To be a source of expertise and support to colleagues across the service and will work with other statutory and independent agencies to ensure a holistic approach to client management.
*To develop and deliver effective training programmes to carers and other health professionals within area of specialism.
*To pursue and acquire ongoing knowledge and expertise for practice.
*Manage caseload of clients within the community and oversee caseload for junior staff.
*Plan and implement comprehensive programmes of intervention for clients who require intensive rehabilitation in the community.
*To supervise and train junior members of staff and rehabilitation assistants.
