Referrals into the Specialist MSK service are from MSK physiotherapy, FCP, GP or self-referral. The caseload comprises complex patients with musculoskeletal pain, or those who have not responded to primary care intervention. Advanced clinical reasoning, investigative and analytical skills are required to ensure appropriate investigation are undertaken, and to facilitate decision making regarding most appropriate management options, ensuring delivery of high quality evidence based care.
You will work both independently and alongside a highly experienced team of Specialists, Clinical Leads and MSK Consultants who are key to driving the development of the service. There are opportunities to be involved in Service Improvement, Audit, Research and Quality Improvement. CPD and mentorship is integral to effective service delivery and as well as undertaking a robust competency programme you will have regular workshops/peer support. You will also actively support junior colleges within the Physiotherapy service.
Current vacancies are in the Portsmouth, Fareham & Gosport and South East Hampshire area although team members will be expected to be able to work across the service geography if required.
Main duties of the job
To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
To undertake specialist assessment, interpret the relevant clinical findings of complex patients with musculoskeletal pain or those who have not responded to primary care interventions.
To make decisions, using investigative, clinical reasoning and analytical skills regarding the appropriate medical investigation of choice and implementation of such including injections.
To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and support and facilitate more junior staff to do likewise, using evidence based practices and evaluate outcomes.
Provide timely advice over the management of all patients entering the care pathway.
To advise GP's, patients, families, employers and Physiotherapists on best management.
To be responsible for the setting and monitoring of standards and policies of clinical practice physiotherapy service referring patients to the specialist pathways.
To keep accurate, legible records of patient care in line with Trust and service guidelines, being responsible for all physiotherapy records held by the Specialist service, using audit tools when appropriate.
To lead in quality improvement, such as projects to support shared decision-making and improve patient centred care, helping to deliver the NHS long-term plan.
