Job summary
Applications are invited for a part-time consultant (flexible working considered) to join HIOW Sexual Health and HIV Services (SHHS) based at St Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth. The post holder will be expected to have broad experience in all aspects of sexual health and the management of people living with HIV. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the development of services, as well as delivery of high-quality GU Medicine and HIV services including inpatient management, working with consultant colleagues and within multi-disciplinary teams. The consultant will be encouraged to contribute to audit, research, training and undergraduate/post-graduate teaching programmes. The consultant will be expected to be flexible and to provide medical advice and support to nurse delivered clinics. There is a 1:4 on call rota for HIV/GU related emergencies and needle stick injuries. This includes weekend on call to include both Saturday and Sunday.
Main duties of the job
*To participate in the delivery of an effective Genito-urinary and HIV Medicine service, in order to meet national targets.
*To participate with the other consultants and wider MDT in delivery of care for HIV positive patients, including supporting inpatient care.
*Supervision of doctors in training, non-consultant grade doctors, nursing staff and other members of the MDT.
*To provide advice and supervision of delegated treatment/therapy programmes provided by other members of the multidisciplinary clinical team.
*To ensure that clinical practice reflects quality and effectiveness as determined by evidence-based research as far as possible.
*To take part in the on call rota for G.U/HIV Medicine (1:3 - 1:4) following appointment and management of HIV inpatients in conjunction with admitting team.
*To work closely with primary care and acute Trusts in the Hampshire and IOW area to support care for HIV positive people (including supporting pregnant people and patients co-infected with Hepatitis).
