Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable person to whom attention to detail and concentrated focus comes naturally, who is looking for a career in Pharmacy. For the right person, we are offering a 27-month fixed term rotational apprenticeship in our Pharmacy department at St Mary's Hospital Portsmouth.
After completing the apprenticeship you will be able to register as a pharmacy technician with the GPhC.
Whilst in training, you will work at all times under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist. You will perform general pharmaceutical duties and undertake to complete virtual guided learning provided by the training provider as well as workplace training. You will train and develop the skills to become an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) and demonstrate commitment to undertake L3 apprenticeship within an agreed timetable.
A rotational scheme is in operation covering the main dispensary, clozapine dispensary, distribution, clinical trials and medicines management both on site and at other Trust locations.
Main duties of the job
Follow all standard operating procedures to HIOW Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust standards in all areas.
* Accurately dispense and produce labels for prescriptions and controlled drugs.
* Complete the relevant dispensed item checking competencies within the apprenticeship programme, including final accuracy checking of prescriptions
* Tailor individual supplies for patients to assist concordance and increase patient safety.
* Supply stock items to wards and departments and community clinics on requisition. Maintain stock on shelves and take part in stock cupboard top-up services on wards, to maintain supply for patients.
* Obtain and record information for medicines reconciliation.
* Assist in providing a clinical trial service.
* Take corrective action in the event of a near miss or deviation within the limits of responsibility.
* Understand how to report adverse clinical incidents through the Trust risk management system.
* Demonstrate throughout all rotations consistently meeting the required standard as set out in the PRTPT Professional Standards of GPhC.
* Assist the EPMA Pharmacy team dealing with queries from healthcare professionals for electronic prescribing.
* Counsel outpatients about how to use their medicines and give general information and advice about medicines.
* Train in the monitoring requirements and supply of clozapine.
