The closing date is 10 August 2025

Job summary

We are pleased to invite applications for a full-time Specialist in General Adult Psychiatry to join our established medical team on Saxon Ward. This is a replacement post, offering an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic, supportive environment alongside experienced consultants and junior doctors.

The successful candidate will bring proven experience in psychiatric management and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. In return, we offer robust opportunities for professional development and progression, including active support for those pursuing the CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) route.

You will be encouraged to engage in a full range of clinical activities, including risk assessment, care planning, MDT participation, and contributing to the ward's therapeutic environment. The role provides scope for autonomy while offering strong consultant support.

The Trust promotes ongoing learning and development through regular educational sessions, clinical governance, and departmental meetings. There is a strong focus on continuous improvement, with numerous opportunities to participate in clinical audit and QI (quality improvement) projects.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist-level psychiatric input for service users adPA reviews, professionals' meetings, and MDT discussions, fostering collaborative decision-making and continuity of care.
  • Actively contribute to clinical audit and governance activities, promoting service evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Engage in regular appraisal to support ongoing professional development and reflection.
  • Attend Trust-wide educational sessions, departmental meetings, and professional development events to stay updated with best practices.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of national and local clinical guidelines (e.g. NICE), influencing service delivery and care planning in line with current standards.
  • Support or lead the development and dissemination of evidence-based clinical guidelines, policies, and care protocols, and implement change to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Participate in local, regional, and national professional networks or forums to share learning and build collaborative relationships.
  • Deliver presentations at seminars, conferences, and internal meetings, contributing to the culture of learning and innovation.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for a dedicated clinician to make a meaningful impact on patient care and service quality, while developing as a senior medical leader.
