Psychological therapist/Clinical Psychologist

Job summary

To provide a qualified specialist psychological service to clients of the community mental health team; to provide specialist psychological assessment, psychological interventions and therapy; to provide supervision and consultation on client's psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers; to work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures; to utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development, and research in line with service need; to undertake a personal research and development programme and contribute to a research culture in the clinical team.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality specialised psychological input to people/clients who fall within the acceptance criteria of the SHFT CMHT Community Mental Health Team

To provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to people in this setting

A recovery focused approach is essential including working with others involved in clients care (e.g. family, professionals).

To offer advice, consultation and supervision on clients psychological care to other members of the multi-disciplinary team. To facilitate awareness of systemic factors involved in repeated crises for clients.

To contribute to audit, service development and research within the area served.

To provide teaching and training in line with the service needs identified.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS. Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a clinical psychologist or Professional training (e.g. RMN, Dip SW, Dip OT or BSc OT) AND post-qualification training and accreditation in specialist therapy training (e.g. DBT, CBT, CAT)

Desirable

  • Training and qualifications in DBT/CBT / CAT and/or other fields of applied psychology.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of care settings (e.g. in-patient and community settings).
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with clients with severe and enduring mental ill- health.
  • Experience of the application of specialist psychological therapies for complex presentations
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of conducting research that contributes to theory and practice
