Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
The closing date is 16 April 2025
Job summary
We have an extremely exciting opportunity to join our Trust as Chief Nursing Officer. We are seeking an exceptional Chief Nursing Officer who has the energy and passion to make a sustainable and lasting difference to our populations and those we care for.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides a wide range of mental health, community and learning disability services for people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We are proud to have a team of over 13,000 staff who work from over 500 sites and serve a population of over 2 million people with care at every stage of their lives. Our aim is to work alongside the people we support, our service users, carers and our partners, to provide outstanding care that helps people live their best and healthiest lives.
The Chief Nursing Officer role is an exciting and pivotal role at the heart of our organisation and integral to the Trust's vision. As a member of the Trust Board and executive team, you will provide strong, visible and professional leadership and ensure that patient safety and the delivery of high-quality care remain central to our strategic direction and decision-making. We are seeking a Chief Nursing Officer who will role model our values, supporting positive and mutually respectful relationships at all levels in the organisation, always acting with kindness and championing inclusion.
Main duties of the job
Providing influential and visible clinical leadership, you will inspire our clinical and nursing workforce as well as Trust partners to build on our reputation of delivering the highest quality mental health, community and learning and disability care in a complex and increasingly integrated health economy. We are committed to our people plan, so you will help us to retain, develop, support and attract staff with a key focus on improving staff's health, safety and wellbeing.
The role requires an individual with a passionate and forward-thinking approach to clinical leadership, quality and improvement. Our ideal Chief Nursing Officer will need to demonstrate clinical excellence and innovation in healthcare and possess the ability and charisma to engage staff and stakeholders on a national stage.
Our Trust recognises the importance of promoting equality and eliminating discrimination in all aspects of our operations, from recruitment and employment practices to patient care and service delivery. We especially welcome applications from candidates from the global majority, LGBTQ+ community, or those with lived experience of a disability, to strengthen the diversity of our Board so that it is representative of our team and the local population we serve.

About us
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS FT (HIOW Healthcare) is a new NHS Trust, bringing together community, mental health and learning disability services, aiming to improve consistency of care between these services and the organisations responsible. Over the past 18 months, we've worked hard to align our mental health, community and learning disability services across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to improve access to care, reduce duplication and resolve unnecessary differences in practice and outcomes.
With over 13,000 dedicated staff working across more than 300 sites, we place patients and staff at the centre of everything we do. Our goal is to create an integrated healthcare system that improves accessibility and ensures more consistent care for patients. By working together, we aim to improve patient outcomes, drive innovation, and meet the unique needs of the populations we serve.
Our Trust unites services from Southern Health, Solent NHS Trust, Isle of Wight NHS Trusts community and mental health teams, as well as Hampshire CAMHS, originally part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This transformation enables us to deliver more seamless care across the region, ensuring that patients receive the right support, in the right place, at the right time.
