Job summary
The Clinical Advisor sits within the Clinical Advisory Team (CAT).
The Clinical Advisory Team is a group of specialist clinical advisors that provide timely education, training and advice to individual professionals/clinicians and teams working with adults and children with long term conditions and disabilities living in Portsmouth and Southampton. The service will promote person centred care for children and adults and offer high quality clinical advice and support with an emphasis on prevention, in addition to promoting dignity and respect.
The overall aim of the service is to enable people living in Portsmouth and Southampton to function as independently and safely as possible and have a good quality of life, whilst ensuring best use is made of the available resources. The service will ensure patients' needs are identified and managed whilst promoting their health and independence to live at home longer and therefore reducing expensive nursing home and hospital placements.
The service is provided by an appropriately qualified range of clinicians with structured development and supervision to ensure the advice is always the most current. The team is made up of AHPs and Nurses who provide expertise in the following four areas, covering both adults and paediatrics: Moving and Handling, Equipment for independence, Posture Management, Pressure Relief and Tissue Viability.
Main duties of the job
*The post holder will provide specialist clinical support, advice and guidance, education and training to all Healthcare and Social Services employees regarding clients/patients of all ages with complex needs within their clinical specialism.
*Clinical advice may include changes to techniques, use of everyday household items to meet a need or recommendations of specialist or highly specialist equipment.
*Assist clinicians and other multidisciplinary professionals prescribing equipment with clinical reasoning/reflection and product choice.
*Work with commissioners and prescribers to ensure best value principles are applied in the on-going development and review of prescribing processes and product lists.
*Organise equipment reviews related to new equipment and provide feedback to companies regarding design modifications.
*Review specialist and recycled special equipment requests and introducing standardisation of equipment where appropriate.
*Reviewing new equipment within the team and make recommendations for possible inclusion in the equipment catalogue.
