Job summary

Serenity Path Hospital is an acute adolescent inpatient unit, providing residential care for up to 10 young people aged between 12 and 18. Set on the outskirts of Winchester, in picturesque grounds Serenity Path Hospital is a purpose built hospital. Leigh House provides a comprehensive assessment and treatment programme for young people experiencing acute mental health and/or emotional difficulties, eating disorders, and who additionally may pose a risk to themselves.

The successful candidate must have excellent engagement and communication skills, a sense of fun and the ability to laugh at oneself, and a professional and innovative approach to practice. They will need to demonstrate that they can work independently as well as under direction, feel confident in using activity to engage young people, as well as having skills and experience in project/event leadership or facilitation.

The hospital facilities include an ADL kitchen, sports hall and fitness suite, games room, relaxation room, music room, and creative art rooms, as well as additional group rooms and outdoor spaces.

As an Activity Co-ordinator, you will work as a valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, supporting the young people to make purposeful use of their leisure time and to have fun, as well as organising a variety of events throughout the year. The post-holder will be required to work some evenings and weekends on a roster basis

Main duties of the job

To deliver a range of recreational activities which are accessible and meaningful to young people in order tohelp individuals exercise choice in how to structure their timeProvide a sense of enjoyment and satisfactionOffer opportunity to take part in current interests or develop new ones and therefore contribute to their own recovery.To develop and support young people to engage in programmes of physical and creative activity meeting the needs of young people of varying functional and physical abilities.To engage young people, across the unit, in group or individual sessions. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, to contribute to a 7 day programme which includes evenings and weekend working.To encourage and support young people with self-occupation and autonomous activity.To support young people during their treatment in hospital by instilling the importance of activity for mental health and offering emotional and functional support when required.

Essential

  • Numeracy and Literacy Skills Level 2 (GCSE grade A to C)
  • European Computer Driving License (ECDL) or similar
