Job summary
This is an opportunity for full-time Specialty Trust Grade (Registrar) post in General adult psychiatry. The appointee will work together with a Consultant General adult psychiatrist.
The post holder will be required to demonstrate that they have experience in the diagnosis and management of psychiatric conditions, and preferably will have MRCPysch or equivalent. The posts may be attractive to candidates who have completed Foundation and Core Medical competencies (or equivalent) and wish to gain further experience in Psychiatry before pursing ST3 training, or those who wish to work towards CESR in the specialty.
Although this is a non-training post, the successful candidate will be assigned a consultant educational supervisor and will be encouraged to maintain an educational portfolio with appropriate assessments to their level of experience.
There are regular educational/academic, clinical governance and departmental meetings, as well as Wessex study days. There are also a wide range of opportunities to participate in clinical audit and quality improvement projects.
There is a very good opportunity at Romsey CMHT to be involved in co-facilitating or observing different group-based psychological interventions (for e.g. Mindfulness, Emotional Coping Skills, Wellness Recovery Action Plan) and/or doing 1:1 sessions under appropriate psychology supervision.
Main duties of the job
* Provide Registrar level day to day care for General adult psychiatry patients in a community setting
* Conduct new patient and follow up General adult psychiatry clinics
* Participate in the West area psychiatry oncall rota
* Provide day to day supervision of medical students
* Participation in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and work with nursing, psychology and support worker staff
* Liaison with other agencies such as primary mental health services (TTH/PCN network), Drug and alcohol services (Inclusion), Crisis resolution and Home Treatment team etc
* Achieve basic competencies in management of patients with severe and enduring mental illness, diagnosis and management of common psychiatric conditions and screening and decision-making with regards to referrals
* Teaching experience through the junior doctor induction and education/academic programme, journal club, and opportunities to teach on MRCPsych programmes within the Trust.
* Take part in Audit and Clinical Governance
* Undergo regular appraisal throughout the post
* Attend Trust educational and departmental meetings.
* Demonstrate awareness of national and local guidelines relating to specialty (e.g. NICE guidelines) and influence care developments in accordance with these.
* Identify, contribute to or lead on aspects in the development and dissemination of evidence-based guidelines, standards and protocols as required and implement change to improve the quality of patient care.
