Specialty Doctor in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry - WTV Community
Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust
This job is now closed
Job summary
The Trust is seeking a Specialty Doctor to join the WTV CAMHS team. This vacancy is being created, following changes to the psychiatry team. The Trust regards this as an opportune moment to reconfigure the psychiatry input into the team. This post is one example of the commitment of the Trust to develop better provision and capacity for Hampshire CAMHS and the families and carers using the service in challenging times. This post contributes to the medical establishment of the team.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will be expected to work closely with other medical colleagues in the WTV CAMHS team and offer cross-cover for other colleagues. The team covers the Winchester and Test Valley area, which is a large geographical patch. Young people are seen individually and/or with their families/carers. The multi-disciplinary team is multi-skilled and enthusiastic, and when fully staffed offers a wide range of experience and therapies. Our Single Point of Access team processes referrals and signposts cases which are not appropriate for CAMHS. Young people are allocated an initial assessment, with the most urgent young people seen within a timescale of 1-6 weeks whilst routine young people will wait longer. We have partly implemented new ways of working, meaning that the psychiatrists do not routinely take on young people and their families in a care co-ordinator role, reserving most of their time for consultation and liaison with team members and running specific clinics for assessment, medication or consultation. In practise however, each psychiatrist does carry their own case load which usually comprises of young people on long term follow up for medication.
The Hampshire psychiatrists are a strong group who meet monthly. Most have chosen to take on a specific leadership role for which they use their SPA allowance. There are also good CPD groups in each area.
This post does not have any out of hours on call responsibilities.
About us
Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.
With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.
We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to combine all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services, with the plan to create a new larger, more integrated and accessible organisation.
The transformation will happen in stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning across in May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent NHS Trust services is expected in late 2024, when our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, will be formed.
Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.
Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of healthcare in Hampshire.
