An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, passionate, resilient, and motivated person, to join our team. Abbey Ward is a purpose built 10 bedded female psychiatric intensive care unit, the first in Hampshire. It will provide rapid assessment, implementation of care and treatment for acutely mentally unwell female patients with associated risks.

Main duties of the job

The role of Senior Healthcare Support Worker will offer an opportunity for career defining training and challenges; it will offer exposure to a very distinctive and rewarding environment, where you will be part of a close-knit team. There will be opportunities to develop, where you will gain experience working within adult mental health. You will be on hand to support the nurses as well as the wider clinical team. You would be supported to develop in an environment that promotes learning, and expected to undertake training in order to fulfil your role.

Abbey ward has a structured career pathway to which every individual will be supported in their professional development, and onto nurse training or into specialist roles, should you be motivated and have the desire for progression.

You will need to be able to work a variety of shift patterns including nights and weekends, over a 7 day period.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.
