Job summary

To carry out and / or oversee the repair / maintenance / installation of painting and decorating works across all Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust (SHFT) properties. This will involve a multi-skilled approach as well as the full range of duties associated with the post holder's primary trade as a Painter / Decorator. This will include planned preventative maintenance and reactive repair works across varying disciplines associated with painting and decoration.

Main duties of the job

This role will involve reactive work to a tight deadline, particularly in response to patient damage. This may involve the requirement to access patient bedrooms within our inpatient sites, where all applicable policies must be strictly adhered to. Works within patient bedrooms shall be prioritised, where the bedroom is deemed unfit for use until the works have been undertaken. This may require the flexibility to work outside of the Trusts core hours, to ensure patient bedrooms are returned to use as soon as possible.

To undertake the refurbishment of our sites as per the direction of your Estates Officer / Maintenance Operations Manager, in line with the departments 'Painting Programme'.

To become well versed in the bespoke requirements of our mental health sites, such as anti-ligature standards, the maintenance, repair and replacement of bespoke anti-ligature fittings and application of anti-pick.

Co-ordinate the receipt of maintenance requests, input of information into the CAFM system, production of procedures and feedback into the CAFM system of work progress, including labour and materials used. Training will be provided on the operation of Trust CAFM system and hand-held PDA's.

About us

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.

We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services. Our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, is set to launch in July 2024.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of healthcare in Hampshire.
