We have an exciting opportunity for an applied psychologist who is keen to work in community mental healthcare and develop their skills in specialist psychological therapies. We will consider applications from recently qualified psychologists looking to develop into a Band 8A role via a preceptorship.

In this post, you will spend three days per week working in Southampton East Community Mental Health Team at Bitterne Park, or one of the other Community Mental Health Teams in Southampton by agreement. Working alongside colleagues, you will provide specialist psychological assessments, formulations and interventions. You will offer consultation, supervision and training to staff within the multi-disciplinary team. You will also attend team meetings and complex case panels. You will manage and supervise an assistant psychologist and/or a band 7 clinical psychologist working in the same team.

Main duties of the job

Alongside your work in the community mental health team, you will spend up to two days per week delivering specialist psychological therapies to service users from across the city. Principle current needs are therapies for people with complex emotional needs and psychosis.

Applicants should have experience of working with people with severe mental health problems. We are looking for someone who has well-developed interpersonal and clinical skills, together with the resilience needed to thrive in a busy city-based NHS service.

You will join a friendly and supportive team of psychologists and psychological therapists with a wealth of expertise including CBT, DBT, CAT, ACT, EMDR and psychodynamic approaches. We have good supervision structures and an excellent track record of CPD, as well as strong academic links.

You will receive professional leadership and line management from a Principal Clinical Psychologist. You will receive clinical supervision tailored to your own model of practice. All our Community Mental Health Team bases enjoy free parking. Flexible working arrangements are possible, including some remote working according to clinical need.

We are committed to equality of opportunity and keen to increase the diversity of our team.
