Job summary

Band 6 Qualified Occupational Therapist, Learning Disability Hampshire, and Southampton Intensive Support Team.

Are you a passionate and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist looking to join a supportive multi-disciplinary team (MDT) with a view to maximising potential and improving quality of life?

The Hampshire and Southampton Intensive Support Team (IST) works alongside the Community Learning Disability Teams in helping to devise the best support for adults whose behaviour challenges services.

We are looking to recruit an Occupational Therapist to be part of an MDT that includes Psychology, Nursing, Behaviour Analysis and Speech & Language Therapy. We are a small team with a reduced case load, allowing focused team-working to support services and families to be able to meet complex needs more effectively, within a Positive Behaviour Support framework. The role includes some leadership and supervision of unregistered staff as well as an expectation to participate in the ongoing development of the team.

Why join us?

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to join a friendly and supportive team that makes a difference to people's lives. As well as utilising and strengthening your profession-specific skills, there are opportunities for you to develop skills in functional assessment and expand your knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support. The IST offers a rare chance for true interdisciplinary working with shared goals and a passion for real change for the people with which we work.

Main duties of the job

The Intensive Support Team provides an intensive response to support people with a learning disability at a time when their needs challenge the service provider or their family. The Occupational Therapist's role is to improve quality of life through the use of meaningful engagement at a 'just right level' and ensure that the person, occupation and environment is allowing them to perform to their optimum capability.

This is achieved by --

*Providing high levels of support to meet the increased health needs of the patient

*Providing increased levels of support to the carers.

*Providing access to clinicians with specialist learning disability skills at a time of crisis

*To complement the work of the CLDT

*To promote the development of Intensive Learning Disability Community Services, where the work is framed within a Positive Behaviour Support model.
