Job summary
The Legacy Mentor role should appeal to healthcare professionals who have several years of clinical experience and a passion for supporting the next generation of early career leaders. You will be helping newly qualified nurses and AHPs by imparting your knowledge, skills and experience through coaching, education and guidance supporting them to gain the competence and confidence to progress their careers.
You will act as a mentor, coach, teacher and assessor and provide a presence in practice to ensure our band 5 AHPs receive dedicated support to develop as safe and competent practitioners. A key part of the legacy mentor role is holding responsibility for signing off competencies based on local and national standards.
You will need to demonstrate empathy and patience, be passionate about your profession and be able to provide pastoral support to others. You will need to be confident in building relationships and collaborating with others.
You will either have a degree or relevant experience and hold a current professional registration. In addition, you should have either have an accredited teaching qualification or experience in supporting learners in practice. You will need to be able to work flexibly without direct supervision and be able to travel as this post will cover a number of clinical sites.
This opportunity is fixed term for the next 10 months with secondments and flexible working considered.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work alongside the LEAD and divisional practice education teams and will be committed to supporting the development of our newly registered health care professionals.
Work alongside early career registered healthcare professionals supporting competency development and building confidence.
Promote a positive working environment for people in their early career and provide support through coaching and mentoring.
Coach newly qualified clinical professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Provide clinical expertise on a range of projects, supporting best practice and enhancing the learning environment for all.
Liaise and work with other practice area support staff to ensure consistency across the setting and blended learning approaches to support the transfer of learning and skill attainment.
Raise the profile of the role of legacy mentors and share good practice with others, enhancing the profile of the organisation and providing support to managers.
Work as an integral member of the LEAD team to develop appropriate strategies and support for relevant staff in early career, and support retention.
Provide and promote clinical learning opportunities for early career registered staff.
Ensure all training, information and guidance provided is up to date and evidence based.
Support newly qualified registered nurses and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) to access and complete the Trusts Preceptorship programme within the recommended timeframe.
