Job summary

We are seeking an experienced manager with excellent clinical skills and an ability to engage young people with mental health difficulties, families, system partners and stakeholders, to join our established team. Applicants must have experience of working with service users with mental health difficulties, leadership skills which will support the operational management of our inpatient and ED day hospital services, and a style of working which supports all team members to achieve the best possible outcomes for young people and their carers.

Based at Leigh House Hospital near Winchester, the Matron will be responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the existing GAU/ED inpatient service, and will also contribute to the creation of the new on site ED day hospital aiming to launch in spring/summer 2023.

Set in picturesque grounds, Leigh House residential unit is undergoing extensive renovations to optimise the space and ensure it is a therapeutic environment for those young people requiring an admission. The site has recently been refurbished to ensure that it is sensory-friendly to support young people with neurodevelopmental conditions and other sensory processing difficulties.

Leigh House also benefits from being part of a portfolio of 3 CAMHS hospitals with a robust culture of collaboration, learning from events, and sharing innovation and best practice.

Main duties of the job

The primary role of the Modern Matron is to lead the operational and clinical delivery of the inpatient service.

Leigh House is a 10-bedded Tier 4 general acute mental health and eating disorder hospital for young people aged 12-18 years. In spring 2023 it will also provide an eating disorder day hospital for cohorts of up to 10 young people per programme.

Development of the day hospital will include MDT recruitment, designing the clinical programme, and delivery of bespoke training, as well as preparing the necessary systems and processes to ensure the service is clinically effective once launched.

Working with a wide range of Southern Health business and clinical colleagues, as well as community-based health and social care partners, the role will ensure the effective implementation of the NHSE Service Strategy and the Divisional Business Plan in order to improve the young people and carer/family experience, improve outcomes for young people, and to provide services which are value for money.
