We are seeking to recruit highly motivated and innovative practitioners to train as health visitors and school nurses to lead 0-19 Public Health Nursing and deliver great service to our children and families in Hampshire.
Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (SCPHN's) work at individual, community and population level in a preventative social model of health designed to empower families to take control of and improve their own health and wellbeing.
We are inviting NMC qualified nurses (Part 1, Part 2), to apply for a training contract to complete the BSc or PGDip/MSc in Public Health Practice, in partnership with University of Surrey and Bournemouth University. Those qualifying to be on the NMC register (Part 1 and Part 2) by September 2023 are also welcome to apply.
Successful applicants must have 120 credits at level 2 to complete a BSc and a first degree 2:1 or above to complete a PGDip/ MSc.

Main duties of the job
To fulfil the academic and practice requirements of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the University and the NMC to achieve a BSc/MSc in Public Health Practice. This will result in a registrable qualification in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing on Part 3 of the NMC Register.
Southern Health will be your 'Health Provider' sponsor and work with our partner Universities to ensure smooth enrolment onto the SCPHN course.
There will also be an opportunity to offer you employment as a Community Staff Nurse band 5 within health visiting and school nursing prior to the university course commencing in September 2023.
As well as academic study you will experience placements will in health visiting and school nursing teams across Hampshire On successful completion of your studies you will gain a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) qualification in Health Visiting or School Nursing, be offered a post within our services and paid at salary Band 6.

Take full advantage of the opportunities offered whilst in a practice placement to underpin the theoretical knowledge gained whilst in the educational setting.
Seek out additional learning opportunities available in the community under the guidance of the Practice Supervisor/Practice Teacher.
Take responsibility for identifying own learning needs and seek help at the earliest opportunity if learning support is required.
Demonstrate the achievement of competencies necessary to practice as a Student SCPHN by completion of the Proficiency Based Portfolio.
Study for and achieve the BSc/MSc in Public Health Practice.
To work as a Student SCPHN within the community as a member of a Health Visiting/School Nurse 0-19 Team as appropriate.
To work under the guidance of a Practice Teacher and/or Practice Supervisor.
To work with the academic tutor responsible for overseeing progress and engage in the use of web-based learning facilities provided by the University.
To attend regular supervisory meetings to reflect on practice.
To attend practice placement on days designated by the university (including consolidated practice).
To attend taught and other days as designated by the university timetable (including those for student effort).
To meet regulations laid down by the university and comply with the guidance in the University Handbook.
To comply with Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust's Policies and Procedures and to include Local Safeguarding Children Board Procedures (LSCB).
To assess child protection concerns in relation to children and young people, to discuss these concerns with colleagues and to take appropriate action in line with SHFT Safeguarding Children Policy and Procedures. This can include decisions to breach confidentiality where this is in the best interest of the child or young person. To support the child, young person and family through this process and to ensure that they are kept informed at all times. To actively participate in child protection supervision.
To participate in staff training and induction programmes including attendance at mandatory training sessions as required by SHFT.
To work in accordance with the NMC code of professional practice and maintain legible, accurate and contemporaneous records.
To participate in the annual appraisal and Personal Development Plan process and to achieve the competencies set for the role and post.
To undertake any training necessary as identified through these processes.
To take part in clinical supervision.
To keep an accurate diary which reflects daily work and mileage.
To support the clinical governance agenda.
To be aware of and comply with Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust's policies and procedures.
