Due to ongoing expansion of the service a very exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Liaison Psychiatry Team in Southampton.
The Southampton Liaison Psychiatry Team has recently aligned to the national Core 24 model, the service is now developing to meet the Hampshire and IOW mental health transformation priorities. Liaison psychiatry is an integral part of the 24/7 Urgent Care Model and this is a great opportunity for a motivated individual with an interest working in an acute hospital environment to expand their knowledge in both physical health care and crisis intervention, within the urgent care model.
We are looking for applications from highly motivated, enthusiastic, and mental health professionals (nurse/social worker/AHPs) who are committed in promoting patient focused care and treatment for adults within the acute hospital. The successful candidates will work across the acute general hospital to provide mental health assessments and brief interventions to patients in the Emergency Departments and in-patient wards, as well as support, advice, and training to acute hospital colleagues.
The successful candidate will a receive a robust induction and regular supervision and reflective practice. The post holder will be required to work a flexible shift pattern over 24/7.

Main duties of the job
To provide specialist mental health care assessments for Working age Adult patients and Older Peoples when required within University Hospital Southampton such as, Self Harm assessment, Mental health emergencies, Complex psychosocial and behavioural assessments, Capacity assessment and Risk assessment.
To provide psychological support effectively and efficiently to patients with mental health needs who are temporarily in crisis, or who have mental health needs as a result of their physical illness or as a result of being hospitalised.
To advise non-psychiatry staff on outcome of assessment and formulate a medical care plan based on clinical intervention and risk management.
To provide time limited liaison follow up appointments when needed for those patients with more complex and enduring mental health needs.
Work positively and collaboratively as an integral part of the Specialist Adult Mental health services, Older Peoples Mental health services and effectively liaise with multi-agency colleagues, patients and their supporters.
Contribute to the development and quality of clinical practice of liaison work with this client group at local and national levels.
To maintain active role in service development, evaluation and integration with OPMH services which includes working with Older Peoples Mental Health.
To work various shift patterns participating in a flexible, 24 hour, 7 days per week rota on a shift rotational basis.
