Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, passionate, resilient, and motivated person, to join our team. Abbey Ward is a purpose built 10 bedded female psychiatric intensive care unit, the first in Hampshire. It will provide rapid assessment, implementation of care and treatment for acutely mentally unwell female patients with associated risks.

The role of a Healthcare Support Worker will offer an opportunity for career defining training and challenges; it will offer exposure to a very distinctive and rewarding environment, where you will be part of a close-knit team. There will be opportunities to develop, where you will gain experience working within adult mental health. You will be on hand to support the band 3 HCSW's, and nurses as well as the wider clinical team. You would be supported to develop in an environment that promotes learning, and expected to undertake training in order to forfil your role.

Main duties of the job

Senior Healthcare Support Workers help registered nurses deliver healthcare services to service users. As an experienced support worker, you carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare tasks, under the direct or indirect supervision of the registered nurse. You provide high quality, compassionate healthcare, following standards, policies or protocols and always acting within the limits of your competence.

You will be caring and compassionate, honest, conscientious and committed.

You will treat people with dignity, respecting individual's diversity, beliefs, culture, needs, values, privacy and preferences, show respect and empathy for those you work with, have the courage to challenge areas of concern and work to best practice, be adaptable, reliable and consistent, show discretion, show resilience and self-awareness and show supervisory leadership

*To deliver compassionate, recovery focussed care and support in line with care plans

*To support the Multi-Disciplinary team by contributing to comprehensive assessments including ongoing health, risk assessment and safety planning.

*To support the qualified nurse in managing risk with regard to vulnerable service users.

*To support qualified nurse to maintain safe clinical practice, ensuring that clinical records are accurate, correctly collated and up to date.

*To provide support and supervision to less senior staff as appropriate

*To act as an assessor for less senior staff studying for their diploma's
