Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced psychological assistant to support the Clinical Lead and Operational Lead role in implementing and maintaining the NHS and HMPPS Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE) model, which forms part of a pathway of services within the Offender Personality Disorder Strategy. This is a new PIPE service which is in development at Dickson House Approved Premises for men in Fareham, which provides 19 beds, taking men on licence upon release from custody from the Hampshire area and nationally.

Psychologically Informed Planned Environments (PIPEs) are specifically designed, contained environments where staff members have additional training to develop an increased psychological understanding of their work and work in a psychologically informed way. This understanding enables the provision of an enhanced safe and supportive environment, which can facilitate the development of those who live and work there. They are designed to have a particular focus on the environment in which they operate; actively recognising the importance and quality of relationships and interactions.

Main duties of the job

You will have a key role in creating, supporting, and maintaining a healthy psychosocial environment; working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop a service that adheres to the theoretical principles of the PIPE model. This may include facilitation, assessment, research, design, and delivery of the core components of the PIPE model, including group work working alongside the service Clinical Lead.

The post holder will support Clinical and Operational leads in the development of a positive and enabling milieu, ensuring that the delivery of psychosocial aspects of the PIPE service is compliant with policy and delivery arrangements. This will include supporting the PIPE service to work towards meeting and maintaining the standards set out for the Enabling Environment award

This job works with those who are under Probations Services, and with a wider multi-disciplinary team, to reduce the risk of reoffending and enhance the provision of a safe environment. This is achieved through conducting research, providing consultancy, delivering training for staff and assessments and interventions for offenders. Through the application of their developing forensic psychology knowledge and skills the job holder will contribute towards reducing the risk of reoffending, protecting the public and maintaining the decency agenda, whilst also promoting the principles of the Personality Disorder Strategy and supporting the development of a psychologically and socially informed planned environment

The post holder will be working with a wide range of complex dynamics within the environment and host organisation. This will require the post holder to take a proactive and reflective role, working effectively alongside clinical, operational, and strategic leads for the service to promote effective service development. The post holder will contribute to the development of other staff in the multidisciplinary team by delivering training and clinical support. Experience of paid work in direct care provision, including the delivery of psychological interventions. For example, having worked as an Assistant Psychologist, Psychological Well-being Practitioner in IAPT setting, or under the direct supervision of a clinical psychologist.
Experience of working within an Adult Mental Health setting.
Experience of clinical audit and/or service based research.
Experience of contributing to the delivery of structured group interventions for people with mental health difficulties.
