Main duties of the job

Southfield has an established multi-disciplinary team, with non-consultant medical staff, psychology, occupational therapy, social work and nursing and health-care support work provision. There are excellent links with primary and secondary care physical health services.

In addition to having an inpatient caseload of between 10 and 14 patients each, consultants provide community forensic liaison to local general adult services, for example opinions on risk management, future possible referrals, post-discharge advice and care pathway transition.

The adult forensic service operates as an integrated service, with the majority of inpatients returning to their local community treatment teams, either as inpatient transfers or discharges. There is a community team with 2.6 whole time equivalent community psychiatric nurses who provide community follow-up, with the relevant consultant psychiatrist, to a small number of recently conditionally discharged patients living in the local area to enable transition back into the community. Each consultant may have approximately 5 community patients at any one time.

Consultants also hold a caseload providing in-put to patients placed in out-of-area beds (low to high security), including reviews for potential repatriation in-area.
