Job summary

Southern Health NHS Foundation provides specialist mental health services, learning disability services, community physical health services including community hospitals and specialist inpatient units, and primary care across Hampshire, and is one of the largest providers of its kind in the country.

We provide care to around 240,000 people each year, and employ over 6000 people, including doctors, nurses, therapists and support staff. We are part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainability & Transformation Plan. We have an active research department and are a teaching trust, delivering training and teaching to trainees from a range of clinical backgrounds.

We are looking to recruit an SAS doctor in adolescent psychiatry to join the medical team of 2 consultants and core trainees at Leigh House General adolescent unit based in Winchester, Hampshire. This is a 10 sessions/week post and is required due to a retirement. Leigh House admits up to 10 adolescents with a wide variety of mental disorders. They are usually detained under the Mental Health Act.

Applications are invited from doctors with some experience of psychiatry or with paediatric/GP experience who are interested in this speciality. You will be supported to develop your career and will join an existing team of professionals committed to improving the experience and outcomes of young people in secure care.

Main duties of the job

Inpatient specialised services consist of the following:

*Ravenswood House -- adult medium secure hospital, 79 beds, male only

*Southfield -- adult low secure hospital, 28 beds, male and female

*Ashford -- adult low secure hospital for people with learning disabilities, male only

*Bluebird House -- adolescent medium secure hospital, 20 beds, male and female

*Austen House-- adolescent low secure hospital, 14 beds, male and female

*Leigh House -- Tier 4 general adolescent unit, 10 beds, male and female

Leigh House is a General Adolescent Unit with Eating Disorder beds (GAU) that is in process of moving to 10 bed provision for male and female patients between ages of 13-18 both informal and detained under the Mental Health Act.

This is an exciting time to join the Leigh House team as the new provision will provide innovative and forward-thinking care to the changing needs of the population. We plan to develop a 10 bedded CAMHS Tier 4 inpatient unit and a 10-space day eating disorder programme, to support young people aged between 13-18 years. In patients treats young people presenting with acute and severe mental disorders/mental health difficulties. This may include severe emotional dysregulation with significant deliberate self-harm, major mood disorders, psychoses, complex neuropsychiatric disorders, eating disorders and severe obsessive-compulsive disorders.

  • Full GMC Registration with license to practice

Experience

  • 3 years full time hospital service in Psychiatry (CT3 or higher grade) since registration
