Located at Tatchbury Mount, Southampton; Austen House is a 14 bed, low secure hospital for children and adolescents with mental health needs.

Austen House is hugely helping to meet the national shortage of beds for young people with specialist mental health needs, meaning that patients living in the south of the country will be able to access treatment closer to home, preventing them and their families having to travel long distances to receive the care they need.

As a staff nurse you will be a vital part of our multi-disciplined team helping us to deliver high standards of care to the young people we care for. Your day will be very varied and include supporting our young people through completion of nursing assessments, evaluation of care, contributing to ward reviews, training and development of junior staff and ensuring a high standard of nursing care is maintained through supervision. This post is also available to newly qualified staff and you will be offered a comprehensive preceptorship when you come to join us

Main duties of the job

To contribute where required to the provision of a 24 hour, seven day a week inpatient based service, across an acute care pathway.

Under the supervision of the Ward Manager and Charge Nurses, you are required to work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines.

You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. Develop, implement and evaluate care plans in conjunction with patients, carers and other professionals ensuring individual needs are met. To carry out all relevant forms of care and will be designated to take charge of a ward in the absence of a charge nurse.
